Three leadership competencies are communication, adaptability and building relationships that would contribute to a high-performing virtual team. All of these mentioned core competencies are important for a virtual team. A globally diverse team involves member from different cultural background. Therefore, communication can be considered as a potential leadership competency in order to listen to the point of view of others, process the relevant information, and ultimately communicate effectively (Lilian, 2014). Without the adaptability competency, it will be very tough for a global leader to adjust to all of the circumstances and to think in a creative manner if the leader does not have adaptability. On the other hand, building a suitable relationship with all of the members help to bring out the best performances from all of the members in a globally diverse team.
